Tanisha is a student at Hillsborough High School IB in Tampa, Florida. She has been a musician for most of her life, primarily playing the oboe. Tanisha currently leads her school’s marching band as the Drum Major and is the principal oboist in her school’s Wind Ensemble.
Through her musical experiences and by attending a Title I (underfunded) High School, Tanisha understands the struggle of not having a proper-working instrument. She has seen cracked mouthpieces, broken keys, and out of tune instruments in music programs that don’t have the funds to fix their instruments. All of these instrumental problems unfortunately create setbacks for musicians.
In underfunded music programs and disadvantaged communities, some musicians might not be able to obtain the necessary instruments and resources to prosper as a musician. Tanisha wants to make a difference in musicians’ lives by raising funds and donating instruments to musicians in need.
